Salt is salt, right? Not quite! Salt that you normally see at the store and at restaurants is the kind of salt that doctors tell you to avoid if you’re watching your blood pressure and if you’re supposed to reduce your sodium intake. It is stripped of any nutrients and isn’t really doing much good for your health.

Himilayan salt, on the other hand, has been around for centuries and has thousands of trace minerals in it that can actually LOWER your blood pressure and promote healing in the body. So what is Himilayan salt, what are the benefits, and where can you get it?

I don’t want to get too ‘sciency’ on you, so I’m going to try and make this as easy to understand as possible.

Himilayan salt has 84 minerals in it that are in an ionic form instead of a colloidal form (like sea salt), which makes it much more absorbable by our bodies than sea salt. Because of it’s size and form, it is easily digested by the body, thereby absorbing all of those minerals!

Why don’t you want to digest sea salt? Well, sea salt is actually very dehydrating to the body, while Himilayan salt hydrates you!

Why are these minerals so important? Minerals are the foundational nutrient for the entire body! Every process your body goes through requires minerals and enzymes. Studies have shown that everyone with a disease has at least one major mineral deficiency. Therefore, these trace minerals in Himilayan salt are not only very hydrating, but they help to increase energy and balance in the body!

Enough of the science stuff… you can obviously see that Himilayan salt is a far better choice when it comes to nutrition… so how should you use it?

When I wake up in the morning I like to add a little Himilayan salt to my water with some lemon juice. This is super hydrating and alkaline.

At our house, we have replaced regular table salt with Himilayan salt. It tastes even BETTER and we know that we are nourishing our bodies. Since I’m pregnant, normally blood pressure and sodium is a concern… but since I use Himilayan salt and follow a healthy diet, neither my blood pressure nor water retention have been issues.

So where can you get this magical salt? You can get it pretty much at any health food store! A lot of places are selling it online, so Amazon.com or another health food store realtor should carry it as well!
