If you’re looking for gluten-free desserts, you can’t go wrong with foods that contain flaxseed, and this strawberry flaxseed recipe brings out the flavor of berries with simplicity. Flaxseed has a nutty flavor that’s easily paired with desserts. Flax has been thought to have medicinal properties for years, and recent studies show they can help lower cholesterol. Flaxseed, a seed from the plant Linum usitatissimum, is widely used around the world as medicine and for healing through food.  The seed or the seed oil is used to make medicine.

People use flaxseed for many conditions related stomach problems. It has been proven effective in staving off  disorders of the heart and blood vessels, including high cholesterol, “hardening of the arteries” (atherosclerosis), high blood pressure (hypertension), and coronary artery disease.

While flaxseed is not currently a common ingredient in our Western diets, flaxseed has a 2000-year history as a food source. The World Health Organization and the National Cancer Institute recognize flaxseed as a “super food” for health. It’s also a grain of choice for those looking for additional fiber or those who need gluten-free options.
