Sweet Maple Green Beans
Sure to be a hit with kids, these sautéed sweet maple green beans are a tender, sweet and delicious “candied” delight.
According to World’s Healthiest Foods, 60% of all green beans are produced in the United States, so you can fecontain lutein, beta-carotene, violaxanthin, and neoxanthin in green beans, and green beans — and although not the most vitamin-C rich bean plant, green beans aka string beans “Research comparing the overall antioxidant capacity of green beans to other foods in the pea and bean families (for example, snow peas or winged beans) has found green beans to come out on top.”
Ingredients
- 2 cups green beans
- 2 tablespoons butter (or substitute)
- 3 tablespoons maple syrup
- Salt and pepper
- Protip: If you're looking for a bit of Asian-inspired flair, substitute out one tablespoon of maple syrup for sesame oil and toss in a half-tablespoon of sesame seeds.
Instructions
Steam green beans in a large, deep pan until softened.
Melt the butter in a pan over medium heat. Add the maple syrup and green beans saute for a few minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste and serve.
